The start line for this edition of the Vendee Globe boasted the most impressive line-up of competitors to date. The very first Vendee started in 1989 with 13 hopeful entrants, while this year's edition saw 30 sailors jostling for position as they crossed the start line. And it is set to be one of the most exciting races to date too. With two former winners, Michel Desjoyeaux and Vincent Riou, five medalists Loick Peyron, Jean Le Cam, Mike Golding, Marc Thiercelin and Roland Jourdain, and two prize winning circumnavigators from other races, Bernard Stamm and Jean-Pierre Dick, the competition is set to be fierce. Every single one of the contenders had the ability to end up on the podium and that's exactly where they all intend to be.
We will be keeping up to date with their progress and sharing in their adventures with glimpses into their personal lives on-board, their hopes, fears and excitement, whilst hopefully learning a trick or two as we discover their personal thought processes behind tactical manoeuvres.
Whatever conditions the elements throw at them and whatever challenges they face, it can be guaranteed that everyone of us will be wistfully thinking the same..."maybe one day".
