News from the 2008 Vendee Globe

DAY 10: NO EQUATOR RECORD BROKEN THIS TIME.....
Difficult weather in the Bay of Biscay has put paid to this year's fleet hoping to break the intermediate record between Les Sables d'Olonne and the Equator. The record was set during the 2004 Vendee by Jean Le Cam with a time of 10d 11h28m and in order to better it, this year's competitors would have to have sailed 500 miles in 18 hours. We bet Jean Le Cam has breathed a secret sigh of relief! Better luck next time guys.

2008 Vendee Globe: The epic adventure begins!

The start line for this edition of the Vendee Globe boasted the most impressive line-up of competitors to date. The very first Vendee started in 1989 with 13 hopeful entrants, while this year's edition saw 30 sailors jostling for position as they crossed the start line. And it is set to be one of the most exciting races to date too.

Catching up with Pete Goss

Ocean Addict has been catching up with Pete Goss and finding out all about his exciting new project. It's another epic boat-build and sailing voyage, but this is so incredibly different from everything he's done before.

Spirit Of Mystery News Updates and Position Log

16/11/08 - LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOONS ABOARD THE SPIRIT OF MYSTERY...

After a blinding sail on Friday which saw 'Mystery' flying over 150NM in just 24hrs, it would seem that the weather has conspired to gift the crew a weekend full of rest and recuperation. Having been becalmed and quite literally going nowhere, the boys have had plenty of opportunity to catch up on some much needed sleep, reading and yet more gastronomic forays. Here's hoping that the wind picks up and they can progress in the same vein as last week. Monday morning and work beckons!
